Visit of MOL Logistics (The Netherlands)

Posted on May 23rd by Satoshi Katada

Tilburg, the Netherlands. I was finally able to go to this place. Thirty years ago, when I was young, I was selling sea freight at MOL's Nagoya branch. Since the sales of transportation of container alone could not be differentiated, we proposed to use the warehouse of the Dutch logistics company Wassing, which was acquired by MOL at that time, as a base for bonded storage and distribution in Europe as a transportation hub base. At that time, Japanese shipping companies were also recovering due to the deterioration of profits in '80's due to the strong yen.

In addition, Masaharu Ikuta, who was the president at that time, took the leadership and started alliances with other companies in the same industry in Europe, the United States, and Asia at the global level. Later, the aviation industry introduced the same mechanism. It is a so-called "alliance". Our alliance was the first alliance in the world. The world's largest new container ships, with a capacity of 6500 TEU at the time, was also introduced on the European route to carry the cargoes of the four companies.

In addition, exports of automobile parts have increased significantly, and the Nagoya branch has also increased its business performance. It has been designated by a major automobile parts manufacturing company as a parts storage and delivery base for major European automobile manufacturing companies. Almost 30 years later, I was very happy to see that many parts of the warehouse are still being used to manage their parts. thank you very much.

Now, unlike at that time, I myself am on the side of building such a system, dreaming of developing a logistics infrastructure and system that can be used by customers in my responsible countries.
